02 · About

About

Andrei Kupchin is an industrial energy-efficiency expert and technology executive who introduced device-level energy monitoring to CIS markets, establishing a regional market for a solution category that had not previously existed there.

Across more than 250 client implementations, he has helped industrial and commercial organisations identify hidden energy losses, reduce operating costs, improve equipment performance, and make better-informed energy decisions.

Drawing on this experience, he initiated and developed a methodology for digital industrial energy auditing that is used by energy-audit companies, professional energy auditors, and industrial enterprises as a practical framework for evaluating and improving energy performance.

It enables audit and plant teams to collect and interpret equipment-level data, identify anomalies and losses, establish digital energy baselines, assess improvement measures, and prepare results for subsequent measurement and verification.

Expert perspective
Energy efficiency is a management discipline that should improve both operating economics and environmental performance.
Digital transformation creates value when reliable data is connected to process context, accountable decisions, and measurable follow-through.
Advanced analytics and AI can accelerate industrial analysis and reveal patterns at scale — but they remain only as effective as the data, methodology, and human judgement behind them.

04 · Methodology — From industrial data to measurable energy performance

Methodology

Initiated and conceptually developed by Andrei Kupchin, the methodology transforms equipment-level energy data into a structured process for identifying anomalies and losses, establishing digital energy baselines, evaluating improvement measures, and preparing for subsequent measurement and verification.

Developed from more than a decade of field experience across 250+ client implementations.
Who uses the methodology
01

Energy-Audit Providers

Energy-audit companies and professional auditors use the methodology to structure fieldwork, improve data collection and analysis, identify energy-performance deviations, and prepare evidence-based recommendations.

02

Industrial Enterprises

Industrial enterprises use it to understand equipment-level energy performance, reveal technical, organisational, and behavioural losses, prioritise improvement measures, and establish a basis for subsequent verification.

The four-stage framework
01
Prepare
Collect documentation, inspect the site, classify equipment, define measurement requirements, and approve the digital energy-audit programme.
02
Install the measurement system
Deploy and verify equipment-level measurement devices, configure the data gateway, and establish a reliable measurement system.
03
Observe
Collect continuous equipment-level data, monitor data quality, and connect measurements with production schedules, operating modes, and recorded events.
04
Analyse and report
Identify anomalies and losses, calculate energy-performance indicators, establish digital baselines, evaluate improvement measures, and prepare the measurement and verification package.

Signature elements of the methodology

These are not generic audit steps. They are operating mechanisms defined within the methodology initiated and conceptually developed by Andrei Kupchin from more than a decade of practical field experience.

01

Equipment classification logic

[POWER] — [FUNCTION] — [OPERATING MODE] — [LOAD TYPE]

Each monitored asset is classified across four dimensions: installed power, operational function, operating mode, and electrical-load characteristics. This classification determines measurement priority and analytical treatment.

02

Fit-for-purpose measurement

MEASUREMENT CLASS A — ASSET CHARACTERISTICS
MEASUREMENT CLASS B — VERIFICATION NEEDS

The methodology distinguishes between different classes of measurement equipment and connects their selection with asset characteristics, required accuracy, analytical objectives, and subsequent verification needs.

03

Data sufficiency before conclusions

OBSERVATION WINDOW → COMPLETENESS · COVERAGE · STABILITY

Observation periods and data-quality requirements vary according to equipment operating modes. Measurements must satisfy defined completeness, coverage, and stability conditions before they can support an analytical conclusion.

04

Context before anomaly

ENERGY
CONTEXT
ALIGNED LAYERS: EXPLAINED EVENT ≠ CONFIRMED ANOMALY

Energy readings are interpreted against production output, shifts, schedules, operating modes, and recorded events. An explained production event is separated from a confirmed energy-performance anomaly.

05

Anomaly and loss taxonomy

TECHNICAL ORGANISATIONAL BEHAVIOURAL

The methodology distinguishes excess load, performance drift, idle running, out-of-hours operation, start-and-stop deviations, inter-shift variability, seasonal effects, and unexplained consumption. Identified losses are further classified as technical, organisational, or behavioural.

06

Digital baselines and verification

OBSERVEDBASELINEMEASUREVERIFICATION

Quality-controlled equipment data is used to establish digital energy baselines and prepare a traceable package for evaluating improvement measures and subsequently verifying their effect.
